My name is Cari Duran and I am a 4th grade G.A.T.E. teacher in southern California. Unfortunately due to my more-than-full-time job I don't get to craft as often as I wish but I'm starting out slow and learning all the ins and outs of using social media to advertise my work and learn new techniques.
I've been dabbling in the "scrappy world" for almost 3 years now. I started off creating only 12x12 layouts. Last year a friend of mine convinced me to check out all the craftiness that is happening on YouTube. WOW! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was so amazed and so inspired. Clearly, I had a lot of catching up to do.
After about a couple months of watching tutorial videos from some of the most talented people out there, I decided to go for it. I went full steam ahead and made a mini album for a birthday gift for my aunt. I wasn't super pleased with it (and of course I don't have any pictures) but at least I accomplished something. I knew there was more to learn. I continued watching video after video and just kept practicing and learning different techniques.
Around December of 2011, the same friend that talked me into subscribing to crafty YouTubers' channels, convinced me to make my own videos. Without the right equipment I was hesitant, but did so anyway.
Almost a year later, here I am trying to figure out how to blog, make quality videos, practice the techniques, start a website and get good enough to sell my creations. I know I have sooooo much more to learn, but I continue to be inspired by all you wonderful artists out there.
